Budapest: A Capital That Still Says Yes To Small Budgets

Yes, Budapest got more expensive. No, you can't say that about Paris or Amsterdam. Here's the real budget reunion plan for 2025.

People keep complaining Budapest isn't cheap anymore. Compared to itself five years ago, true. Compared to any other EU capital, still one of the best deals on the continent for a 3-day reunion.

Cheap Beds In Good Neighborhoods

Maverick City Lodge and Maverick Urban Lodge in District V are clean, central, and have privates under 60 EUR. Hostel One Basilica for the social option. For groups of 4-6, apartments in District VII (the Jewish Quarter) start around 80-110 EUR a night - per-person that's 15-25 EUR.

Avoid Buda-side hotels for a budget weekend; the tram crossings eat your time and Pest is where everything you want is anyway.

The Cheap Eating Map

Hummus Bar chain for cheap, fast, decent lunches around 6 EUR. Karaván food trucks next to Szimpla Kert for 5-8 EUR street eats. Central Market Hall upstairs for langos - tourist-priced but still 4-6 EUR. For one proper sit-down dinner, Stand25 Bistro does a 3-course around 25 EUR. The half-priced lunch menus at fancy restaurants here remain one of Europe's best food hacks.

Bathes And Bars Cheap

Szechenyi Baths is 30-35 EUR for a full day - expensive single-item but it's an all-day activity. Public transport is 4 EUR a day. Beer at a ruin bar is 3-4 EUR. The free walking tour from Vorosmarty ter is genuinely good - tip 15-20 EUR if it deserves it.
