There is no other city in the world where someone from Boston and someone from Berlin can land within an hour of each other after similar flight times. Reykjavík's geography is its whole pitch, and it's still under-used as a reunion city.
The Flight Math Is Unbeatable
From the US East Coast, Icelandair and PLAY offer 5-6 hour overnights. From most of Western Europe, it's a 3-hour daytime hop. Both sides land at Keflavík, which is 45 minutes from downtown on the Flybus. We've done this trip with friends from Toronto and Stockholm - we landed 35 minutes apart. There is no second city on earth where that is normal.
A Weekend That Doesn't Feel Rushed
Friday night: dinner at Matur og Drykkur if you've planned ahead, otherwise Bastard Brew & Food. Saturday morning: drive (or join a small tour) to the Golden Circle - Thingvellir, Geysir, Gullfoss - back by 5pm. Sunday: Sky Lagoon or the older Blue Lagoon on the way back to the airport.
If your group has 4 days, push past the Golden Circle to the South Coast - Seljalandsfoss, the black sand at Reynisfjara, and back. It's a lot of car time but the conversations are some of the best you'll have.
Costs, Honestly
Reykjavík is expensive. A casual dinner with drinks is easily 70-90 EUR per person. We compensate by booking apartments with kitchens and doing one big group breakfast each day from the Bonus supermarket (the pink pig logo). Lagoon entrance fees are real, book online for the better price.
