Budapest is a weekend reunion designed by accident. The baths are the morning hook, the ruin bars are the night hook, and in between the city does its own work.
Friday: Settle In On The Pest Side
Stay in District V or VII. Quick early dinner at Mazel Tov in the Jewish Quarter - book ahead, it fills. Then a ruin bar crawl: start at Szimpla Kert because everyone needs to see it once, move to Mazel Tov, end at Csendes. Stop drinking when the friend who lives in the strictest time zone says so.
Saturday: Baths Morning, Castle Afternoon
Szechenyi Baths in the morning. Aim for 9am open, you'll have the outdoor pools mostly to yourselves for an hour. Bring flip-flops. Bring a small bottle of water. Bring a towel - they rent them but the rental queue is slow.
Lunch at Bestia near the Basilica. Afternoon walk up to Castle Hill via the Chain Bridge. Sunset at the Fisherman's Bastion, then walk back down for dinner at Stand25 Bistro.
Sunday: The Slow Day
Breakfast at Cirkusz. Walk through Margaret Island for an hour. Lunch at Mak Bistro if you want a proper Hungarian meal, or just street langos by Central Market. Train or tram back to the airport. The Aeroexpress isn't a thing here - 100E bus from Deák Ferenc tér is cheap and reliable.
